Copenhagen Sex Guide

Looking for sexy action in Copenhagen?

Denmark’s capital, home to over a million people, is a top destination for nightlife and adult entertainment. With five million tourists visiting each year, the city has built a reputation for catering to those seeking more than just sightseeing. Its proximity to Sweden also makes it a popular weekend escape for Swedes looking for a good time. If you know what we mean…

Buying and selling sex between adults is legal. Running the business around that sex is not. There is no licensed brothel streets like you’ll find in the DACH region. What you get instead is a dense independent-escort market, a klinik grey zone, a small strip-club circuit, a surprisingly serious swingers scene, and a street trade that has shrunk… but has not gone away completely.

The Local Adult Industry

Copenhagen sex guide cover

Copenhagen is liberal by Nordic standards and expensive by almost anyone else’s. While Sweden and Norway are famous for criminalising the buyers of adult services… Denmark has taken a different path, meaning Copenhagen has a much more relaxed attitude towards the oldest trade in the world.

What does that mean for adult services?

  • Independent escorts can be found (and booked) off large, public Danish boards
  • Shared-premises klinikker that look like brothels are fairly commonplace
  • Plenty of Thai and “wellness” rooms where extras are an open secret
  • A compact strip-club row around Istedgade (and another cluster in Indre By)
  • Active selection of swingers clubs
  • Plenty of ordinary sex shops
  • A leftover street scene on the east end of Istedgade and the side streets toward Skelbækgade / Helgolandsgade

To be clear, it’s not Amsterdam we’re talking about here. It is not Hamburg, either. It is a gentrified former port neighbourhood that never quite managed to evict the old trade.

Sex and Prostitution In Copenhagen

Denmark decriminalised the sale of sex in 1999. Buying it from an adult is also legal.

In that sense, you can say that Copenhagen sits on the opposite side of the Nordic-model fork from Stockholm.

The current criminal code is fairly blunt about everything else. Under Straffeloven § 233, these are the current rules that apply:

  • Stk. 1 – running a business in which another person has sex with a customer for payment is rufferi. Punishment can be up to four years.
  • Stk. 2 – exploiting someone else’s paid sex, or repeatedly acting as a middleman for profit. Fine or up to three years.
  • Stk. 3 – renting a hotel room for someone else’s commercial sex. Fine or up to one year.

What does this mean in practice?

She can take the money… that’s fine. You can pay her… that’s fine, too. But the moment a third party is sticking its beak in, organising the queue, taking a cut, or running the house as a business, the statute is in play.

That is why Danish indoor sex calls itself a klinik, a massage room, or “independent girls sharing a flat.

Sex work is also taxable.

It is not recognised as a normal profession, which sucks for the SWs because they get no standard employee benefits. We’ve seen that a government working group on living conditions was set up in May 2025. Liberal Alliance tabled B 118 in February 2026 to carve bodyguards, bookkeepers and premises-rental out of the rufferi legal position.

As of writing (Sept 2026) that is still a proposal, not law.

How big is the trade?

The last serious national count is from VIVE, 2021: about 4,500 people sold sex in Denmark at least once in 2020. Most of that work was carried out online (around 3,100), with smaller trade flowing through indoor venues and on the street. Those street numbers bounce depending on who is counting, and it’s impossible to get a fully accurate picture of the current scene.

VIVE-linked figures mention a 400-650 range of street SWs nationwide. What we can certainly say is that Copenhagen isits firmly in the middle of the action.

Also worth noting is that around half of the sex workers in that study were first-generation immigrants.

Compared with the rest of Europe, the adult trade is much more open than Sweden, Norway or France (the buyer is not the crime), but clearly less industrial than Germany or the Netherlands (no licensed mega-brothels)… and yes, it’s priced like Scandinavia. Expensive!

Escort Industry

As an international capital city, Copenhagen is well served by escorts and there are an estimated 3000-4000 sex workers covering the area. Though some of these are street prostitutes, the majority ply their trade using escort directories.

Working girls advertise with photos, menus, MobilePay numbers and incall postcodes.

You’re not going to find a thicket of licensed high-street agencies in the German sense. We’ve seen some that exist, but the reality is that most escort business is carried out by independents, with a handful of sites that function as directories rather than employers or conventional GFE agencies.

Where do they advertise?

Some of the more prominent Copenhagen escort ads are found on:

  • Escort-Side.dk – active Copenhagen ads with on-page prices. Listings we checked in September 2026 were quoting hour rates in the 1,500-2,800 DKK band.
  • Escortguide.dk – another popular source with high traffic.
  • Annoncelight.dk – free classifieds, high volume and YMMV. Claims to be the most-visited independent Danish sex-ad board.
  • Other names that circulate on the same circuit: RealEscort, FindEscortNu, and the usual international directories with a Copenhagen filter (HappyEscorts, TopEscortBabes and similar).
Escort-Guide-DK
One of many listings on EscortGuide.dk

Most international directories can be treated as aggregators rather than bespoke services. The booking still runs through whatever contact details the SW has provided.

Are there any Copenhagen agencies?

Yes, a few, but we are not listing them as vetted agencies here, because the legal structure is a massive grey area. If they are taking a cut of her fee they are in the statute.

How the escort scene works

In most cases, an incall will be in her flat or a klinik room. Outcall is to a reputable hotel, and often with a travel add-on surcharge. WhatsApp or SMS are typically used to arrange bookings. Cash and MobilePay dominate. Cards are less common with independents, for obvious reasons.

Ads use the Danish menu codes you will see just about everywhere: Svensk (handjob), Spansk (between breasts), Fransk (oral), Græsk (anal), GFE, extras priced separately.

From what we’ve observed, condom language is usually explicit.

As for pricing, going local is seen as the luxury option. Danish independents will typically charge the highest rates. You’ve got a lot of Eastern European, Latin American and African women that fill the middle market. The cheapest rates come from massage shop extras and street-based sex work (definitely not a good idea!).

Copenhagen Brothels

Brothels are not legal, in the traditional sense.

But though profiting from brothels is illegal in Denmark, many operate in a legal grey area where the girls take the cash for services, and rooms are paid for to the madam. The country is said to have over 400 such venues all contributing to the ever-increasing economy of the adult industry (currently valued at €160 million per annum).

So, when we talk about Copenhagen’s brothels, we’re basically referring to the klinik workaround (discussed here): several self-employed women sharing an address, a rota published on a website, a front desk that takes a room fee rather than a percentage of the sex. Plenty of them operate in plain sight for years.

One such example:

Pussy Galores

Lyngbyvej 231 A, 2900 Hellerup

https://70210026.dk/

Pussy Galores

This is a typical example of what you might expect. A north-side address on the road toward Lyngby. Their own site publishes a week-by-week vagtplan (rota), with worker availability, and a “Pussy Call” outcall and room-hire pitch. Room hire from the house is currently advertised from 400 DKK. Service prices are on the individual profiles for each girl, not a single door tariff we could confirm as current.

Red Light Districts

There is no official tolerance zone.

The unofficial one has stayed the same for decades Vesterbro, specifically the eastern end of Istedgade running west from Central Station, plus the ladder of side streets – Skelbækgade, Helgolandsgade, Colbjørnsensgade – down toward Halmtorvet and the Meatpacking blocks.

Gentrification has swallowed up much of the trade, but what’s left of the red lights is concentrated in a few hundred metres: sex shops, a couple of strip rooms, massage windows, and after midnight the women who still work the pavement.

Make no mistake though, the street trade is still very much real.

TV 2 Kosmopol famously spent a night on Istedgade with The Red Van (the volunteer outreach van, Thu-Sat 00:00-05:00, funded in part by the municipality). The reporter found the epicentre still on Vesterbro, the workers using the van almost all foreign, and Danish women were largely gone from the street trade.

The Red Van’s own 2024 impact numbers: 77 nights out, 785 uses of the van, 8,800 condoms. Yikes.

We strongly advise against buying on the street. That’s not because the law bans the purchase (technically it does not), but because this is the highest-harm, lowest-control end of a city that already has a well-established indoor market which is considerably safer.

Robbery, intoxication, trafficking indicators, and the simple fact that the women still out there at 3am are the ones who could not get into the online or klinik tier.

Current street prices: from what we’ve seen in random forum reports, €40-100 (roughly 300-750 DKK) is the norm.

The Price of Sex In Copenhagen

You probably don’t need us to tell you this:

Copenhagen is NOT cheap.

We did some basic data crunching from directory guides and live ads:

  • Independent escort, 30 min: 800-1,500 DKK
  • Independent escort, 60 min: 1,500-2,500 DKK (mid-list Escort-Side ads in September 2026 came in at 1,500-2,000)
  • Premium / GFE hour: 3,000-4,000+ DKK (and considerably more for top A+ tier)
  • Overnight: 3,000-9,000 DKK depending on the ad.
  • Klinik / indoor 30-60 min: often similar to escort incall.
  • Thai massage + extras: 500-1,200 DKK is the typical norm.
  • Street short time: our figures of 300-750 DKK are based on historical forum reporting.
  • Strip-club lap dance: about 400-500 DKK per song at a club like Bada Bing.

Against the rest of Europe?

A standard Copenhagen hour is roughly a standard Zurich hour and well above Berlin or Warsaw. So, it’s a case of Hello Mr. Money Bags catching the worm.

Needless to say, the market might be legal but it’s very much on the hush-hush. Hotels are not going to thank punters for a loud negotiation in the lobby.

Erotic Massage Shops

The city has a huge range of massage parlours, many of which provide ‘extra’ services.

While the woman can sell sex, the owner taking a cut of that sex is the § 233 problem again.

So the shops exist, they are not hidden, but how they operate can often land them in the shitter.

A January 2026 journalism project (Resonans / DMJX) rang 380 Thai massage clinics nationwide and reported that at least 35% offered a happy ending when asked.

And that’s just the ones that said yes on the phone!!

If you go hunting in these, you are walking into an independent negotiation in a legally awkward shop.

In practice: there are plenty of shopfronts or first-floor rooms where erotic body rubs are on the menu. It’s a case of 45-60 minutes on the clock, a lot of oil, and then a round of negotiations in private between two consenting adults.

Extras we’ve seen come in around 500-1,200 DKK on top of or instead of the massage price.

Sex Clubs in Copenhagen

There’s no ambiguity here: Swinging is completely legal and an established part of the Copenhagen sex scene.

Clubs are treated as ordinary nightlife businesses… as long as they are not selling other people’s sex.

(Denmark takes this more seriously than most of Scandinavia.)

Some of the most obvious choices for sampling The Lifestyle:

CitySwingers

Øresundsvej 55, 2300 København S (Amager)

https://swingeren.dk/da

Swingeren

Scandinavia’s most visited swinging club, City Swingers is a large club spread over 500 sq. m and provides plenty of play facilities. There are 12 different rooms including a gangbang area, spa and sauna.

Widely seen as an institution of Copenhagen swinging.

Official hours on the Swingeren tariff page: Mon-Thu 09:00-01:00, Fri 09:00-02:00, Sat 12:00-02:00, Sun 12:00-20:00. Feeling nervous? Grab yourself a free clothed tour Friday and Saturday at 18:00.

Here are the latest door prices (Sept 2026, they may have changed – check before visiting!)

  • Before 18:00: women 150 DKK, men 250, couples 250
  • After 18:00 Sun-Thu: men/couples 350
  • After 18:00 Fri-Sat: women 250, men 450, couples 550
  • Guests without a Swingeren profile: +200

Single men are frozen out 17:30-19:30 Fri/Sat because of the tour.

Most of the rules here are fairly self-explanatory for a lifestyle club: use the condoms in the rooms, “no means no”, discretion at all times, and clean up after yourself.

XXDark

Godsbanegade 20, 1722 København V

Situated in the heart of the red-light district of Vesterbro, XX Dark is a porn cinema and swinging club and has a kinky reputation. Popular with TS/TV and bi-sexual men and women, gangbangs are a regular event.

Vesterbro-based, smaller venue and shorter week: Wed-Fri from noon, Saturday from 18:00, closed Sun-Tue. The door is cheaper than CitySwingers’ weekend peak (men 250-350 DKK depending on slot).

Secret Swingers

Skjulhøj Allé 10A, 2720 Vanløse

https://www.secretswingers.dk

An interesting alternative, it’s listed on Swingerguiden with a live event calendar that rotates through plenty of popular lifestyle themes (bi club, dark nights, gangbang-themed days). Check the night before you go.

Swingland

Baldersbækvej 22, 2635 Ishøj

https://www.swingland.dk

Not in the city proper. Ishøj is a south-west suburb.

It’s basically a playground for adults – in fact, Swingland is the largest club of its kind in Scandinavia and covers a massive 700 sq. m.

swingland swingers club copenhagen
The ‘Guildhall’ at Swingland is a big play space with an S&M feel.

The facilities include gloryholes, private porn cabins and dungeon. You can find plenty of themed play areas and mingling areas including a café, lounge and bar.

Amigo Sauna

Studiestræde 31, 1455 København K

https://amigosauna.dk/

For those seeking a different experience, this is a gay / men’s sauna in the Latin Quarter, with mixed days (Tue-Thu). There are play rooms attached. While it does host some lifestyle events, it’s NOT a hetero swingers club. So choosing your night wisely is a good start!

Copenhagen Strip Clubs

There are plenty of strip clubs in Copenhagen ranging from gentleman’s clubs to striptease parlours.

See a full breakdown in our Copenhagen strip club guide.

Vesterbro is the old guard for strip action, while Indre By holds some of the more hedonistic stag-do rooms.

Popular staples include:

Bada Bing

Gothersgade 19, 1123 København K
https://badabingcph.com/
[email protected]

It claims to be Copenhagen’s “funniest strip club” but surely that’s a naff typo for “most fun“!

Either way, it’s the city’s biggest gentlemen’s club, expect around 14-20 dancers on a busy night in the heart of Gothersgade nightlife strip, with cocktail bar Da Vinci in the basement.

Lap dances are not cheap, reported around 400-500 DKK a song (that was a couple of years ago – they’re possibly even higher with the dreaded inflation). They also sell in-house “Bing Dollars” at 20 DKK. This is very much the bachelor-party default venue.

Cristal Club

Istedgade 28, 1650 København V

A good Vesterbro option. Latest reports put the door at about 100 DKK, Tue-Wed 21:00-04:00, Thu-Sat 21:00-05:00. Generally seen as older, more red-light-street vibes than Bada Bing.

Also on the map

These addresses are still listed as active but YMMV.

  • Kakadu BarColbjørnsensgade 6, 1652 København V. Old room, 1930s pedigree as “The American Bar.” Classic Vesterbro dive-strip rather than a gentlemen’s club.
  • Lady LoveHelgolandsgade 2, 1653 København V. Side street off Istedgade.
  • DollhouseIstedgade 38, 1650 København V.
  • Candy ClubIstedgade 18, 1650 København V.
  • 7th HeavenHausergade 34, 1128 København K. Indre By.
  • Angels ClubNørregade 1, 1165 København K. Indre By listings. Verify before a pilgrimage.

Local Sex Shops and Adult Stores

You can find most of Copenhagen’s sex shops around the red-light area; many are concentrated on Istedgade just because that is where they have always been.

Some of the best-known adult retail options include:

Erotic Lifestyle

Istedgade 14, 1650 København V

https://eroticlifestyle.dk/

It’s in the same building that used to be the Flamingo Club after porn was legalised in 1969. The current owner has been in the room since 1991… so he’s pretty much seen everything. Expect to find everything from toys and lingerie to clubwear and the latest bedroom accessories.

Plan E

Istedgade 30, 1650 København V

sex shop copenhagen

Late hours, open until roughly midnight. This is an example of your classic Vesterbro walk-in from yesteryear.

Lust Copenhagen

Mikkel Bryggers Gade 3, 1460 København K

https://www.lustcopenhagen.com/

Over in the City-centre, closer to Town Hall than the station. This shop is pitched firmly at the wellness / design-toy end of the market… suitable for couples and female shoppers. We mean that in the sense that you can walk into it without feeling immediately dodgy, like you owe the whole of Istedgade an apology!

Homoware

Larsbjørnsstræde 11 (basement), 1454 København K

Latin Quarter. Gay / queer shop.

Other Notable Adult Attractions

What other adult sights does Copenhagen have in store?

The Red Van

Not a venue or a sight as such, but a sign of the times.

This is a famous harm-reduction van on the Vesterbro street beat, it operates Thursday-Saturday midnight to 05:00. It’s born from a municipal-adjacent outreach project that only exists because the street trade still does.

Adult cinemas / porn cabins

Istedgade still supports the old cabin-cinema model in and around the sex shops. If you walk the east end of Istedgade, you will find a couple of well-known establishments.

Dogging

The popular voyeur and swinging activity of dogging has become quite popular of late in Denmark and there are places around Copenhagen where action is commonplace.

Though there are no guarantees of when, reports suggest the Amager Strandpark beach is a known hotspot.

Hooking Up In Copenhagen

As you can see above, paid sex is easy to find in Copenhagen… but it will blow a hole in your pocket.

What about the free option for those who love a good challenge?

Top Pickup Destinations

Kødbyen, Vesterbro. This is one of the most popular destinations for PUAs looking to put the night-game into action. White-tiled former slaughterhouses, stays open 02:00-05:00 on weekends with a mixed straight/queer crowd that is always ready to party.

Other options we see pushed on Reddit:

  • JoleneFlæsketorvet 81. Popular local meeting point. House / disco / techno. Not a pick-up bar in the American sense. A packed room where people come to dance (…and sometimes leave together).
  • BakkenFlæsketorvet 19. Bar that morphs into a club with a nice outdoor spill in summer.
  • WarpigsFlæsketorvet 25. BBQ and beer first, bad decisions later.
  • KB18 – boiler-room techno venue.

Indre By. Culture Box (Kronprinsessegade 54) – this is where to head if you want purpose-built techno. Go for Gothersgade if you want to try your lucky with the strip-club overspill. Or Nyhavn if you want a more touristy enclave and are happy to pay even more for beer.

Nørrebro. Rust and the bar strip along the lakes / Blågårdsgade. Cheaper and more local with less stag crowds.

Hookup Resources

Apps

  • Tinder / Bumble / Hinge – the obvious hookup default for pretty much everywhere these days – Copenhagen is no exception.
  • Grindr – the gay/male equivalent, densely used in Indre By and Vesterbro.
  • Feeld – popular with the swingers-club crowd.

Lifestyle / sex-classifieds

  • Annoncelight.dk – you’re more likely to land an escort than your future wife, that much goes without saying! A mix of working ads and amateurs.
  • Swingeren.dk – the clubs’ own network. Useful for Lifestyle lovers.
