The rural County of Limerick is home to just 195,000 people, 58,000 of whom livde in the city of Limerick. Covering an area of 1,064 sq. miles, the county is big and has some hard-to-reach destinations. It’s little wonder that so few escorts in the county are prepared to travel!

Sex and Prostitution In Limerick
Prostitution in Limerick (and throughout Ireland) follows the Nordic legal model: selling sex is legal, but buying it has been a crime since 2017.
Despite this, Limerick has had an outsized reputation in Ireland’s sex industry.
Back in 2015, the Immigrant Council of Ireland flagged Limerick as a “hotspot for prostitution”, noting 55 women advertising sex work online… which at the time, was far more than in any other Northern Irish city.
The disparity actually arose when Northern Ireland criminalized buyers, which had the effect of driving punters south across the border.
This prompted calls to roll out similar laws in the Republic (which indeed passed in 2017). Today, Limerick’s commercial sex scene is smaller than it was, but still active, roughly comparable to other Irish cities.
The local authorities continue to police organized exploitation and curb visible street trade. As one local jokes: “If you’re looking for red lights, the best you’re gonna find is blue lights!”
Escort Industry
Since the 1993 Sexual Offences Act, most prostitution in Limerick has moved away from street work to escort agencies and online platforms.
While advertising in print is illegal, sex workers continue to promote services through online directories and classified ads.
Interestingly, some well-known publications, like the Limerick Post, have banned such listings. They used to be very commonplace.
Most escorts here are independents rather than agency-managed, advertising their services on popular websites, with by far the most popular being Escort-Ireland.
It’s one of the longest-running Irish escort directory (presumably based overseas?).
As of mid-2025, it listed about 37 escorts in Limerick (for perspective, Cork had 71 and Dublin 380).
Beyond this famous directory, the most popular sites for escorts (and punters) are the classifieds: namely Locanto (289 ads) and VivaStreet (19 ads).
While escort agencies do operate in the Limerick area, they are not public facing, and you certainly won’t find glossy websites with schedules and availability – any such business is banned under Irish sex work laws.
Limerick Brothels
None, to our knowledge.
Operating a brothel (technically defined as two or more sex workers sharing a premises) is illegal in Ireland, and Limerick’s authorities have enforced this strictly.
In the early 2010s, the city was dubbed “in the eye of a sex industry storm” after a series of Garda crackdowns.
One infamous raid on Catherine Street in 2013 found 18 Romanian women operating from a single Georgian building-turned-brothel.
This and similar busts (over 40 brothels have been raided or shut in the last few years) show how organized prostitution had taken root in Limerick’s inner city.
But typically, the few that pop up don’t stay around for long.
Red Light Districts
Limerick does not have an official red light district, but St. Catherine Street is known for street prostitution and drug activity. The city’s last major wave of street prostitution was around 2011, when Limerick astonishingly accounted for over 30% of Ireland’s solicitation arrests… waaay out of proportion for its size
In fact, someone once cheekily stuck fake traffic signs reading “Red Light District – in effect 6pm to 4am” around Catherine Street.
A prank that caused quite the stir in the media!
While some may seek it out for adventure, the area is high-risk, and we recommend you stay well away from any hookers here.
Not to mention, there is frequent police surveillance and regular reports of crime.
The Price of Sex in Limerick
Typical incall rates in Limerick hover around €150–€200 for an hour with a mainstream independent escort, and roughly €100 for a half-hour.
Super short visits of 15 minutes hover around €70–€80, though not many will offer the quickie option.
Outcalls are slightly more, usually marked up by around €50 (with additional travel fees for leaving the city center).
Prices here are often a touch lower than in Dublin; you might pay €150 in Limerick for what costs €200 in the capital. That’s actually a role reversal from several years ago when the prices here were higher (due to low supply).
On the street, prices in Limerick are historically much lower – we’ve seen reports of desperate street hookers offering half an hour for as little as €30–€50. That’s dirt cheap, but also a really bad idea.
It’s strongly advised to stick to established independent escorts for safety and quality, even if it costs more.
Erotic Massage Shops
There are no specific Limerick-based massage parlours where happy endings are a guarantee, but again, we’ve seen numerous reports of punters getting their ends away.
In recent years, “Chinese & Asian Massage” parlours have grown in popularity across Ireland. While operating under the guise of legitimate massage businesses, many provide “extras” (like a happy ending) for clients willing to pay more.
These establishments often advertise in newspapers, magazines, and online directories (most commonly found on the classifieds), and there are a few telltale signs that they may be offering more than just a regular massage:
- A mobile number instead of a landline (for discretion)
- Late-night opening hours, sometimes well past typical business hours
- Emphasizing that all masseuses are female (young and beautiful? Hmm!)
- Subtle phrases hinting at extra services
Expect to pay roughly €100 for an hour of erotic massage in Limerick.
Sex Clubs In Limerick
Limerick had a claim to fame here: it was home to Ireland’s only dedicated swingers club for many years.
The club was called I-Kandi and operated in the Eastway Business Park on the outskirts of the city, self-proclaimed as “the home of Irish erotica”.
The club was open Wednesday to Sunday with club events being held on a Thursday and Saturday. The venue had a spa and lounge facilities that could be accessed on a daily pass… but sadly, it is no more.
By the late 2010s, rumors of its decline had surfaced. Post-Covid, the club simply did not reopen and various reports indicate the building is now empty (their website is long gone).
In absence of a physical club, the swinging scene is mostly accessed online through communities like SDC (our top recommendation) or FabSwingers.
Limerick Strip Clubs
There are currently no strip clubs in Limerick.
The city once had a couple of “gentlemen’s clubs” in the 2000s – Le Chic and Lapello’s – but they were shut down by the late 2000s amid police scrutiny and the humorously codenamed Operation Amethyst.
Since then, no dedicated strip joint has managed to survive in the city – we can’t see that changing anytime soon.
Local Sex Shops and Adult Stores
The last sex shop remaining in Limerick is Love Angels, over on Mungret Street.

Beyond Angels, the options are limited.
For high street shoppers, Ann Summers was a fixture on Cruises Street for years, but that store shut down in 2020 amid declining sales numbers. Thelma & Louise’s is also now closed.
There’s not much of an appetite for adult retail in the city center, and past ventures have not exactly been encouraged.
Famously, Limerick City and County Council once tried to “sex down” the city center by removing Angels… but the owners left officials red-faced by accepting the cash and literally moving 50 meters across the street. 😬

Limerick’s clubs and late bars are prime hunting grounds for a cheeky shift. One legendary spot is Costello’s Tavern, notorious for late night frolicks on the dancefloor. Similarly, Icon Nightclub (on Denmark St.) is the city’s biggest club. On student nights (usually Wednesday), places like Icon, House Limerick, or Pharmacia (an alt-music bar) are crawling with uni students looking to let off steam.
The Irish are famously friendly and social, and Limerick’s locals are no exception.
